Coaches

18s Head Coach: Kiersten Ellefsen-Olelewe. After graduating from Tufts University, where I played for four years as an outside, middle, and opposite hitter and served as a team captain for one year, I moved to Denver to begin my career in education. I coached volleyball at the middle and high school levels for six years before transitioning to coaching club volleyball for the past three seasons. As a coach, I am tremendously passionate about helping student-athletes find a sustainable and fulfilling balance between their studies and involvement in their school and local communities, and building passion, community, and leadership on the court. I believe deeply in the goal of building well-rounded and versatile athletes who are able to see their volleyball skills as transferable to all aspects of their current and future lives and professions. In addition to coaching volleyball, I also currently serve as a School Director in Training with DSST Public Schools and am in my second year of my doctorate in educational leadership. Outside of volleyball, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and spending time with my husband Ikenna, our daughter Nnenna, and our three dogs, Charlie, Ima, and Koda.

18s Assistant Coach: Aysia Carter. I am currently a psychology student at Regis University. While in high school I played club for two years as a setter. Currently, I am playing on the Regis University club team as a pin hitter. I have coached Varsity and club ball for two years. This year will be my second season coaching with Silverback. My coaching philosophy focuses on my love for helping players develop their all-around skills while honing their positional techniques. I am passionate about creating a safe space for all to feel welcome.

18s Second Assist: Currently, I am a full time student at the University of Colorado Denver in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. I played club ball for about 2 years, but have played volleyball for about 8 years in total. I am an alum for Silverback, and am a founder of the 2020 Girls Silverback Team. Not only that, but I am also a founder of the CU Denver Women’s Volleyball Club Team, and am the current treasurer for the team. I coached for Silverback in the 2022-2023 season, and have extreme passion for volleyball, especially for Silverback and its mission. As a coach, I am driven by the observation of growth, as well as the connections you build in the volleyball community. I am also extremely extroverted and outgoing, and spreading my love for volleyball in any way I can makes me feel super fulfilled! Outside of volleyball, I work with children ages 0 months-12 years at a kid’s gym, and coach them in building fine motor skills, strength and stability, hand-eye coordination, etc. If you couldn’t tell already, I just love spreading my knowledge to others, as I feel that my personal growth comes with helping others grow themselves. After tearing my meniscus 3 months ago, I want to be able to share my love for volleyball in ways other than just playing, and coaching for Silverback for a second year will help me to do so!
